Instructional Soccer FAQ
Q. When do the teams play?
A. Kindergarten through 5th grade play Saturday mornings. 6th through 8th grade can play Saturday or Sunday depending on how many teams are formed (they play against Roxbury as well). Pre-K  plays on Saturday starting at 12:30

Q. Where are the games played?
A. We try to play all games at Turkey Brook Park, as long as the weather is not a problem.

Q. How many times a week do the teams practice?
A. It is determined by the coach. 1st through 8th grade usually practice 1 time a week while K and Pre K do not practice during the week. (To hold a practice a coach with an F-License must be present)

Q. How long are practices?
A. Usually 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours

Q. When do they practice?
A. Since most of our coaches are working dads and moms, practice night is determined by the coach’s schedule.

Q. Can I request to not have a coach who practices on a specific night?
A. We do not know the schedule of each coach. Once you are assigned a team and find out what night they practice, if you are unable to attend, your coach can call the division director to see what can be done to switch teams. We will try our best to accommodate, but can not guarantee a solution.

Q. Where do the teams practice?
A.  The place is determined by a few factors. We try to use Turkey Brook Par for Games, so practices there are limited.  We have applied for permits to use the fields located at the K-5 schools. Usually the coach picks a location that is convenient to him or her. The other factor this year is that construction is going on at the high school, practice fields will be limited, as the other school fields will be used for games and practices for the high school teams.

Q. How long is the season?
A. The season runs 10 weeks for K-8th grade and 8 Weeks for Pre K. The calendar will be updated on our homepage.

Q. What happens if it rains on game day?
A. It depends....
      A.  Cold and Wet.   Most Likely Cancel
      B. Warm but light rain. Most Likely Playing
      C. Warm and heavy rain. Most Likely Cancel
We have to factor in many conditions when deciding whether to cancel or not, and part of the decision comes from the town. They have ultimate say on whether Turkey Brook is open or closed for play. You can check this website for our status if it is in question, as well as contact the town’s hotline. 973-691-0900 ext 7262 for the current field status.

Q. What happens if it rains on practice day?
A. The coach will check our website as well as the town’s hotline to determine if they will be practicing or not.

Q. Can I coach my child’s team?
A. Yes you can. You need an F-license from The New Jersey State Youth Soccer Association. We offer this course twice a year before the start of each season. Please select the coach volunteer when you register, as well as check our coach’s corner page for information about the class. The Mount Olive Soccer club will provide this course for free for those who volunteer to Coach in Mount Olive .

Q. My child has played soccer now for several seasons; can I sign them up for a travel team?
A. No, our Travel program has a selection process to join a team, see next question for details.

Q. What is the difference between travel and instructional soccer?
A. Instructional teams do not keep win/loss records during the season and all players are offered the chance to play at least 50% of the time. Your child will also factor in to how much play time they get. Many children when offered the opportunity to go into the game will say they don’t want to go in. The coach will not force your child to participate.

Travel Teams go through a yearly try out system and are selected by their ability to play the game, attitude, and their commitment to the game. Travel teams will practice at least 2 times a week and have games on Sundays. Play time is not guaranteed, and at the end of each season all teams are disbanded and everyone must try out again to make the team.
